Why Recycle?

  • Every ton of paper we divert from the landfill and recycle prevents one ton of Greenhouse Gas emissions from entering the atmosphere.

  • Recycling is an important but underestimated weapon against climate change.

  • It is important because as things decay in landfills, they emit methane gas – which is 21 times more potent in causing the Greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide.

  • Landfills account for more Greenhouse gas emissions than worldwide aviation.

  • Recycling is something everyone can do. As one EPA scientist said: "Fighting global warming is as simple as putting your recyclables on the curb."

  • So the 720,000 tons of paper Pratt Industries currently recycles every year is the equivalent of taking approximately 360,000 cars off the road for 12 months.

  • The 2000 tons of paper we recycle every day also saves 35,000 trees a day.

  • And that's just for paper – imagine what we can achieve with our recycling programs for other products like plastics, glass and metal?

  • Overall in the U.S., just half of all paper products are recycled, compared to countries such as Germany, where it’s closer to 75 percent.

So come on, America. Let’s GO GREEN!
